Relay for Life seeking volunteers
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will take place in Gardnerville July 14-15 at Ranchos Aspen Park.
Volunteers are needed to plan the event during the spring and early summer months.
Relay for Life is a fund-raiser and a way to remember those who have lost the battle with cancer. Last year, the event raised more than $120 million in 3,000 locations.
The event is an overnight campout run/walk/stroll. Participants spend the night, and one member from each team, which may be from a corporation, civic group, school or family, constantly remains on the track either walking, strolling or jogging.
A Luminaria Ceremony is also held to honor the memories of those who have past away from cancer.
Volunteers may participate in many different areas of the relay. Committee members needed for team recruitment, corporate sponsorship, logistics-facility, entertainment, registration-accounting, survivorship, public relations, cancer education and refreshments and food.
Those who wish to participate in the relay itself may form a team of eight to 15 people who enjoy group activities and are health conscious.
Volunteers are also needed to help with setup and cleanup, luminaria sales, survivor reception, kids’ activities and the Luminaria Ceremony.
