Relay for Life raises $13,000
Five teams of cancer survivors and their friends and families raised $13,000 at the annual Relay for Life held over the weekend at Ranchos Aspen Park.
“We met with last year’s (event), dollarwise,” said organizer Susan Sanford of the American Cancer Society, Douglas County Unit.
“I think we generated a lot of enthusiasm for next year.”
Mark Jackson was emcee for the event, and Sen. Lawrence Jacobsen spoke at opening cermeonies.
One hundred and eighty-nine luminarias lighted the entire track to honor those who lost their battle with cancer. Funds raised by the event go to the Reach to Recovery program for women with breast cancer, the Road to Recovery program that provides transportation to treatments for cancer patients and other community projects.
Steffani McCullough won the trip for two to Phoenix in the drawing. She was organizer of one of the participating teams in the overnight relay.
