Relay for LIfe coming to Aspen Park

by Leslie Pearson

The time has come for the second annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Ranchos Aspen Park will be the site of 17 hours of fun, food and entertainment on July 22-23, from 3 p.m. to 8 a.m., at Ranchos Aspen Park.

Teams of eight to 15 people from corporations, civic groups and schools and families will take turns on the track while others enjoy activities that raise funds for research, education, advocacy and public service programs of the American Cancer Society, according to Susan Sanford, president of the Douglas County Unit of the American Cancer Society.

Relay for Life remembers the survivors of cancer as well as those lost to it, so survivors and their families may join the event by walking the survivors lap at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Cancer survivors are also invited to stay for the Luminaria Candle-lighting Ceremony at 9 p.m. During this walk, survivors and those who lost the fight against cancer will be honored.
