Recreation’s Festival of Fun is coming up

Staff reports

Festival of Fun, the Douglas County Park and Recreation Department’s celebration of Parks and Recreation Month in July, will be held Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lampe Park.

“Iit will be a great way for the off-track kids to start their summer vacation,” said Sheryl Christian, coordinator of the event.

Children and their parenst will find lots to do and see, from carnival booths to magic shows, goat cart rides and crafts for the kids. Demonstrations of some of the popular parks and recreation classes will be held at various times during the festival.

C.C. the Clown will perform the magic show.

Tables will be set up by age group throughout the park with information about the many Parks and Recreation programs planned for the summer. Children are invited to stop by to learn more about the activities, and to work on a craft project.

“The Parks and Recreation Department has activities for everyone,” said Christian. “From pre-kinder through adult, there is something for everyone.”

Youth organizations and clubs will host many of the carnival and food booths. For a nominal fee, children can test their skill to win prizes, or buy Indian tacos, hot dogs, sodas and sno-cones. Raffle tickets will be sold at the event, with an assortment of exciting prizes, including baseballs autographed by Shawn Estes.

“Parks and Recreation has so much to offer,” said Christian. “This is a way to showcase our events and activities so that the public is aware of what we have to offer.”
