Recreation needs teen volunters for summer programs
The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Division is seeking teen volunteers to assist with summer Kids Club and Adventure Camp programs.
Kids Club is an after-school program for grades kindergarten through 6th at six elementary schools and is held between the hours of 3 and 6 p.m. Adventure Camp is for off-track students and runs all day.
Teen volunteers will get in-service training and act as leaders in programs and on trips to destinations such as Boomtown and Sand Harbor Beach. Volunteers also will help with special events, such as the Concert in the Park series and the Senior Games.
Also, volunteers will be on the Teen Advisory Committee that will provide insight and direction for the recreation division in teen-related issues.
“Our hope is that, as a volunteer, you will gain academic direction, career development and employment opportunities,” said Warren Bottino, recreation supervisor.
The teen volunteer program is structured to prepare students to one day assume employment within the department as recreation leaders, he said.
The first teen volunteer meeting to prepare for summer will be held Wednesday, May 5, 5:30 p.m. at the recreation annex, 1327 Waterloo Lane, across from Lampe Park in Gardnerville.
Teen volunteer applications, however, are accepted year-round. For more information, call 782-9828.
