Quilt to be auctioned

Staff reports

The family of the late Stella Marie Rosaschi has donated her quilt, “The Tree of Life,” to the Ladies Guilds of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community of Carson City. The Guilds are raffling this 72″ x 96″ hand-stitched quilt, approximately 25 years old, Nevada State Heritage cc37, valued at $1,500. Tickets are available at $1 each or six for $5 at the Fabric Connection, 782-0076, and the Quilt Patch, 782-8845.

Among the Rosaschi ranches in the area was the Rosaschi River Ranch in Lyon County at the base of the Sweetwater Mountain Range. Seven miles of the East Walker River wind through willow-lined meadows and canyon walls. The ranch is now owned and managed by the U.S. Forest Service and Nevada Division of Wildlife and is open to the public.

Miss Rosaschi was born in 1911 in Yerington, one of 16 children born to Belle McLeod and Ambro Rosaschi. She grew up on area ranches before attending Dominican Convent High School in San Rafael, Calif. She was a senior clerk-typist when she retired after 53 years with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety. She received a proclamation from Gov. Bob Miller in 1989.

Miss Rosaschi devoted much of her time to helping family and friends and taking food to the needy. In her spare time, she spent many happy hours working on her beautiful hand-stitched quilts, each with a very different design.

This raffle will benefit her church family and friends, St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community of Carson City. The Ladies’ Guilds, to which Rosaschi belonged, have asked that proceeds benefit the new church. Father Jerry Hanley has designated the proceeds for the professional kitchen, which the new facility will have when it opens early in the new millennium.

This is a one-time only chance to have and enjoy one of Rosaschi’s quilts. The winner will be announced Easter Sunday, April 12. If you have questions or need the locations of sales in other communities, contact Darlene Julian at 463-3069 in Yerington or Margo Hornung at 888-9111 in Carson City.
