Quilt show winners told
Here are the viewer’s choices for the Carson Valley Quilt Guild’s first-ever quilt show, “Quilts of the Valley,” held July 26 &27.
The “opportunity quilt” was won by Audrey Nelson. Approximately 2,500 people bought chances for the opportunity to win the quilt.
Five categories were voted on by people attending the show.
n Regular full-size quilt. First place, Pat Warren for “Byzantine Beauty;” second place, Dee Bartshe for “Primarily Paisley;” third place, Ruth Pierce for “Sunbonnet Sue through the Years.”
n Wall quilt. First place, Shirley Metcalf for “Country Love;” second place, Carolyn Susac for “Baltimore Album;” third place, Shirley Beaver for “Rose Trellis.”
n Clothing. First place, Janet Pierce for a watercolor vest; second place, Christy Zelenski for a watercolor vest; third place, Janet Pierce for “Quilter Sayings” vest.
n Antique quilts. First place, Shirley Beaver for a double wedding ring quilt; second place, Sylvia Kain for a nine patch quilt; third place, Carol Payne for a crazy quilt.
n Guild challenge. First place, Shirley Beaver for “Sun Bonnet Sue Goes to Quilt Show;” second place, Shirley Metcalf for “English Cottage;” third place, Gloria Greenlee for “Ladies at Tea.”
Proceeds from the quilt show will go to make comfort quilts for victims of fire and flood, to pay for guest speakers for future guild meetings and a donation will be made to the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center.
The show was chaired by CVQG members Doris Hoskin and Sylvia Kain.
