PWLMS students fill stockings for Christmas gifts for kids

Staff reports

This week, teacher Elaine Toth’s students in Core 8A at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School stuffed stockings for Christmas giving for the third year in a row.

The students purchased brand-new toys with their own money and sold magazines to earn the cash for material for the stockings, according to the teacher.

Donations helped fill out the stockings, including 130 stuffed animals from Tip Top Amusement in Carson City whose owner lives in Gardnerville. Harrah’s Tahoe donated money and Valley dentists gave new toothbrushes and toothpaste for the stockings.

The stockings are split between the Project Santa and Carson City and Reno Toys for Tots drives, Toth said.

A mother of one of the students, Sandy Stehman, helped Toth sew up the stockings, and the students decorated them with colored felt cutouts and ribbons.

“The kids kind of personalize them,” Toth said.
