Pond tour will feature seminar on fish disease

The Northern Nevada Pond Club and Oasis Water Gardens will sponsor “Pond-O-Mania 2001,” a koi health and water quality seminar and wet lab at Hug High School, 2880 Sutro Street, Reno, March 10 and 11.

Cost is $60 for the seminar only (if paid after Feb. 28, the fee will be $75) and $85 for the wet lab. Participants must attend the lectures to participate in the wet lab.

On Saturday, March 10, registration and continental breakfast will be held 8-8:45 a.m.; the lecture by Dr. Erik Johnson, veterinarian, from 9 a.m.-noon; and lunch, which is included in all registration fees, is noon-1 p.m.

Dr. Johnson is known around the world as a specialist in diseases of fish.

Guest speakers planned for 2-5 p.m. are Chic Kelty, International Pond Supply; Steve Raabe, Oasis Water Gardens; and Marco Tjaden, Flora Tropicana.

On March 11, Dr. Johnson will lecture 9 a.m.-noon; lunch, included in the wet lab fees, will be noon-1 p.m.; and the wet lab will be 1-4:30 p.m.

Make reservations early, as space is limited in both the seminar and wet lab. Wet lab fee includes lunch, live fish, liability insurance, autopsy tools and syringes. Note that the lab will include the euthanasia of koi.
