Players advance in men’s club championship
Ten players remain alive in their quest for top honors in the Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club Championship Tournament.
Among the golfers who remain in the match play tournament are Marc Prause, Marc Menezes, Ken Smitreski, Jack Sparman, Augie Martinez, George Chighizola, Mike Davis, Neil Bain, Richard Brown and Bob Van Nort.
On Sunday, Fred Coons captured first-place in Flight A during men’s club individual stroke tournament play at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
Coons shot a net 70 to win the flight in a tournament that that featured a three clubs and a putter format. Danny Wallis shot 74 to take second-place and Charles Poe 75 for third-place.
Augie Martinez carded a 68 to win Flight B. Garry Sparks shot 71 for second-place, while Matt Budjako and Neil Bain shot 73 to share third-place.
Flight C was won by Gary Carsten at 66. Jim Tavernier shot 69 for second-place and Larry Rutledge shot 71 for third-place.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were John Guidicatti on the first hole and Martinez on No. 18.
