Pioneers donate bears

Staff reports

The Carson Valley Telephone Pioneers’ project of Hug-A-Bear has benefited the Washoe Tribe Head Start Program, with centers in Stewart at Carson City, Dresslerville in Douglas County and Woodfords in Alpine County.

Each child in the program in these areas will receive a bear in his/her Christmas stocking at the various Christmas parties. Kay Oetting, of the Pioneers, presented these to Judith Martin, Head Start Program manager. Head Start is a child development program for preschool children.

The Hug-a-Bear Committee of the Pioneers has been headed by Patti Rose for about eight years and consists of eight members who work on this project. Distribution is to entities, such as the sheriff’s office to give to abused children, Advocates Against Domestic Violence and any group where children are involved and who need some TLC.

Anyone who knows of a group that would like to receive these should call her at 882-5205.
