PHES plans first Geography Bee round Jan. 6
The first round of the 1999 National Geography Bee will be held at Pinon Hills Elementary School on Jan. 6.
For the 11th year, the National Geographic Society is holding the National Geography Bee for students in the 4th through 8th grades in thousands of schools across the United States and in the five U.S. territories, as well as in Department of Defense dependent schools around the world.
The winner of the Pinon Hills bee will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination.
All school winners are eligible to win the national championship and its first prize, a $25,000 college scholarship, at the national competition May 25 and 26 in Washington, D.C.
Sponsorship is being provided by Bank One, which operates more than 1,500 banking centers in 12 states and is the largest credit-card issuer in the nation.
