PHES holds food drive

Staff reports

The student council at Pinon Hills Elementary School kicked off the annual PHES food drive with skits during lunch on Monday.

All classes are participating in the food drive, and the public may donate food by dropping it off at PHES or at the school’s business partner, Bank of America on Highway 395 in Minden.

Supplies of food are depleted this time of year, and the student drive is designed to replenish the stores at the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.

Last year during the food drive, the students took in over 950 items. The school-wide goal for this year is over 1,000, said teacher Katherine Pellegrino, who started the drive two years ago.

She wanted to help students understand the importance of giving year-round, not just during the holidays.
