PHES 1st graders, student council plan food drive
Pinon Hills Elementary School will participate in a food drive for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet which will benefit families in need in the county.
This food drive is being sponsored by Catherine Pellegrino and Susan Neuffer’s 1st grade class and the PHS Student Council.
“Giving is meaningful year-round, and the help of our school is very much appreciated,” said Pellegrino.
Participation in this program is voluntary. People who wish to donate food are asked to send the items to school by April 23. The class with the highest ratio of items per student will win a special prize.
The student council will perform a skit to kick off the food drive on April 15 during lunch.
Non-perishable foods, such as chili, soup, tuna, macaroni and baby food, are needed as well as personal items, such as soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, laundry detergent, tissue and diapers, Pellegrino said.
The student council and the 1st graders will count the food April 23. Adults are needed to help load the items on a truck at about 11 a.m. on that Friday. Interested people may call Pellegrino during school hours at 267-3622.
