Thanks for the great leadership program
November 8, 2011
I have had the privilege of being a part of the Leadership Douglas County Class of 2011. This year-long program provided a wide range of interaction with the community which included an overview of education, state and local government, social service and healthcare, public safety, Lake and Valley tourism and agricultural/environmental aspects. Some key aspects that really stuck out for me was the amount of pride and dedication to keeping this area connected, to help those in need and to keep it a small-town environment. There is a great sense of community involvement and it shows through the number of volunteers that are present in the valley. The leadership program has been such a wealth of information and has given me a deeper connection to this Valley.
Part of the program included a project to be completed as a group. We decided as a group to plan a community event to celebrate 150 years of Douglas County. The community celebration took place on Oct. 1 at the Minden Park. There was entertainment from the Bootleggers and Lavish Green along with food, a family fun zone, a historical walk displaying the seventeen historic markers in Douglas County that rounded out the events for the day. A big thank-you goes out to the wonderful citizens of Douglas County that attended the event, the business’ that sponsored the event and the Leadership Douglas County Class of 2011 for making the event such a success.
