Thanks for support
February 16, 2012
The Douglas High School Wrestling program would like to express thanks to the persons who made the Jan. 28 Carson Valley Lions Classic such a resounding success. This year was especially important since it was the re-establishment of an important aspect of Douglas High Wrestling, in that no tournament was held in 2011.
The following people deserve recognition and our expression of thanks:
Ron Hall for establishing a rich tradition and an exemplary tournament with an outstanding name over many, many years; the Carson Valley Lions for their long-standing tradition of volunteers in this event, manning the gate, providing table help and securing trophies and medals, and especially tournament liaison Frank Lococo; local Boy Scout troop 411 for help with timekeeping and snack bar; Ken and Katie Ceglia for their endlessly patient computer bracketology assistance; Dean Barker, our indefatigable tournament director, who also built a beautiful Tiger awards podium to better honor our winning wrestlers; John Murray for head table help, staging and all-around services; Mark Lilly, our masterful public address announcer, ringmaster, and expert wrestling commentator; Jim Abbott, Douglas High School computer teacher, for assistance with graphics and for formulating our unique tournament brackets; Gary Thurm for printing the brackets; Lester Fitzhenry for working the head table and filling in wherever he was needed; Sharon Hekhius for her endless energy in managing all of the food, including the Douglas High School wrestlers breakfast, the coaches’ hospitality room and the snack bar; Assistant Douglas High School Wrestling Coach David Singer for procurement of tournament teams on short notice; Robert Ames and Dave Hekhius for their assistance in cooking the wrestlers’ breakfast; John Grant and USA Wrestling for use of their scoreboards/clocks; table scoring volunteers from the Carson Valley Lions, the Barker family and the Hekhius family; the Murray family for food service volunteers; the Douglas High School custodians, Jason Berry, Carlos Lopez, Mike Gingrich, Max Mora, and Jeff Rossler for all the setup and cleanup; Douglas High School Athletic Director Jeff Evans and coordinator Cathy Rahe; Monique Reno of Accolades Trophies for supplying our prestigious customized medals and individual and team trophies; our beautiful Douglas High School varsity cheerleaders, Jessika Wass, Nicole Rios, Kayla Ackerman, Lindsey Browder and Amanda Caras, who bestowed medals and wrote out the finished bracket sheets awarded to our tournament champions; and, finally, Ms. Brennan for her calligraphy help.
