At a special election held in Mono county last Friday, that county was voted dry by a majority of about 50. Some sections of Mono county have been dry for several years but the drys have clapped the lid on good and tight and those with a thirst for booze had better not go to Mono county. It was believed that the wets would win the election but the trend of events knocked their expectations into a cocked hat when two drunken Mexicans killed Sheriff Dolan at Mono Lake some weeks ago.

Sept. 12, 1930

Luetta Dressler celebrated her ninth birthday with a party to which a large number of her schoolmates and friends were invited, Saturday afternoon at the Dressler home ranch. Games and various contests were the diversion, with a luncheon served at tables prettily decorated, the birthday cake being a special feature.

Sept. 8, 1960

Men who are draft-exempt now may find themselves up at the front in an all-out emergency, according to information received from the Nevada Selective Service Board. New procedures to identify men who would be qualified for military serve in an emergency, but who are not accepted under current Armed Forces Standards, are now in effect. These men will no longer be placed in Class IV-F. Approximately 2,600 men are classified IV-F in Nevada as of June 30, 1960, out of 22,800 men classified by local boards since 1948.

Sept. 5, 1985

Photo caption. Construction workers have torn up much of Dresslerville Lane in the Gardnerville Ranchos in preparation for realignment of intersections with Long Valley Road and the Riverview Drive extension. Carlson Construction will rebuild the torn-up sections of the road and will patch and overlay the remainder from the Indian colony to Centerville Lane. Work is expected to be finished by the end of October.

Sept. 9, 2000

Without so much as a stuttering “Th-th-that’s all folks,” the New Meadowdale 3 Theatres in Gardnerville has closed. The phone is disconnected, the marquee is empty and many Valley movie-goers will now have to travel across town to see the latest films.
