John P. Cavanaugh
A funeral service will take place 11 a.m Friday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville for John P. “Jack” Cavanaugh, 79, who died Dec. 13, 2004, in Gardnerville.
Mr. Cavanaugh was born May 19, 1925, in Springfield, Ill to Owen and Elizabeth Cavanaugh. He graduated with a bachelors of science degree from the Missouri School of Mines, going on to a career as a mining engineer. He served in the U. S. Army from 1943 to1946. He lived in Alameda, Calif., for 22 years and moved to Gardnerville 10 years ago. He enjoyed his family and friends, he had an avid interest in history and politics and he loved animals, especially his dog Mij. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the Carson Valley Historical Society.
He was preceded in death by his son, Barry Patrick Cavanaugh, Dec. 7, 1961. Among those who have survived by his wife Catherine Cavanaugh of Gardnerville, daughters Brenda and son-in-law Edward Dowd of San Francisco, Calif., Karen and son-in-law Thomas Giuggio of San Diego, Calif. and Mary Cavanaugh of Alameda, Calif.; son, John and daughter-in-law Carolyn Cavanaugh of Pleasanton, Calif. Grandson Alec Trentler of Alameda, Calif., as well as brothers, and sister-in-laws and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a viewing at 10 a.m. and rosary will be said beginning 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17 at St. Gall Catholic Church with burial to take place in Springfield, Ill., on Dec. 21, 2004. All arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Any memorial donations may be made to St. Gall Catholic Church or the Carson Valley Museum.

Sherry L. Kingsland
A celebration of life is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Carson Valley Christian Center for Sherry L. Kingsland, 56, who died Dec. 14, 2004 at her home in Carson City.
Mrs. Kingsland was born June 3, 1948, to Phillip and LaVerne Silva Dominici in Hayward, Calif. She attended high school in Hayward. She moved to Carson City 33 years ago. She was the social services director at Evergreen Assisted Care Center for six years, then at Washoe Health Center for six years and at FISH for three to five years. She was a member of Capital City Christian Center, being very involved in church activities.
She is survived by son, Joe and daughter-in-law Toni Kingsland and daughter Bobbie and son-in-law Nathan Paul, both of Carson City. She was also survived by her mother, LaVerne Dominici of Carson City and sisters, Penny Storey of Shingle Springs, Calif. Peggy Walker of Reno and Cathy Emerson of Arizona. She had five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Arrangements are in the care of Waltons Chapel of the Valley, Carson City. Cremation Services will take place at Walton’s Sierra Crematory in Carson City. The family requests any memorial donations be made to Carson Valley Christian Center Memorial Fund located at 1095 Stephanie Way, Minden.
