Nothing like finding a familiar name

I was reading an article about health journalism in the latest edition of Scientific American, and who should I run into but Clara Ritger.

The former Genoa resident's name turned up in a Freedom of Information Act request because she was trying to pry some information out of the FDA for her gig with the National Journal.

The article was about how some government agencies are limiting access only to certain news agencies.

Clara is the daughter of Phil and Chris Ritger. She's been working on the Great America Cooking Story. You can check out her work at http://clararitger.com/the-great-american-cooking-story.

I got a call from Wayne Woods, who said he also was hitched by Justice of the Peace Bert Selkirk.

Selkirk was the longtime owner of The Record-Courier, but after he retired from newspapering, he was elected to the East Fork office.

Wayne said he and his sweetheart were living in Carson City, when his brother suggested they go down to Gardnerville and get hitched.

"It was pretty late, around 10 or 11 p.m.," he said when they got to Selkirk's house on Toler Lane.
