Melodrama opens Thursday night

All those who have their Melodrama tickets, the time is getting short. By the next time this column comes out, many of you will have already seen it. So, here is the schedule so everyone arrives in time for the opening act.
Thursday night the doors will open at 6 p.m. The performance will start at 6:30, giving you time to purchase a beverage and settle into your seats. Remember, there is ample parking beside and behind the museum, but arrive early to get both the best parking spots and the best seats in the main gallery.
Friday and Saturday nights, the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Beverages will be immediately available for purchase and the dinner will start at 6 p.m. The performance will start at 7 p.m. assuming all diners are finished and the tables are cleared. Seating is first come first seated.
Sunday the doors will open at 11:30 a.m. Beverages again will be available for purchase. Lunch will be served at noon and the performance will start at 1 p.m. Again the best seats and the best parking will be found by the early birds.
As usual, there will be an intermission with entertainment and there will be our 50-50 raffle. We will sell raffle tickets before the performance starts and during intermission. The winner of the raffle splits the total raffle take 50-50 with the museum. However, if the winner should feel generous and donate their winnings back to the museum, you will see their name prominently featured and thanked in this column the following week. Many of our winners have donated the money back to help us keep the doors open and the Melodramas coming.
We’ll repeat most of this information next week as well so you’ll know exactly when to show up and what to expect.

Is there life after the Melodrama? You bet. We have all kinds of fun things planned for our members and friends. We have the March lecture featuring Bob Ellison discussing, “The Search for Laura Dittenreider” who was one of the first white women in Nevada. This lecture ties into our annual celebration of Women in History. Admission to the lecture series is free for DCHS members, $3 for all others.
The reception for Women in History is scheduled for March 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. This year we are honoring Native American Women, including Dat-so-la-lee, Sue Coleman, Sarah Winnemucca, Clara Frank and Susie Dick. Dianna Borges will be doing her Chautauqua presentation of Sarah Winnemucca. Admission for this event is free and the public is invited.

All monies donated to DCHS are 100 percent tax deductible and go to keep our doors open.
