Make the resolution to support local business
January 13, 2011
Most of us made New Year’s resolutions that have to do with self-improvement such as weight loss or physical fitness. And if you are like the majority of Americans, those resolutions will never be fulfilled.
What about a New Year’s resolution that benefits you, your mental health, your big heart and your neighbors?
Times are tough. We hear that all the time. But it’s what we do in those tough times that can make a huge difference, not only in our lives but the many other lives that are touched by the gesture.
Carson Valley has many talented people living here. Some of these talented people are gifted musicians and some are small business owners. Put the two together and you have created a space where neighbors and friends can relax, be entertained, meet new friends and try a new culinary treat.
John, Wendy and Seth Andrews are Acoustic Solution. Husband, wife and son play a variety of instruments including 6- and 12-string guitars, mandolins, fiddle, banjo, congas, various hand drums, percussion, and traditional drums and piano. They write music that is a cross between folk and easy listening with a touch of rock.
Acoustic Solution displayed their own mix of rock, country, harmonies and pleasing melodies to a full house at Blind Dog Coffee last Saturday evening. In addition to playing a few of their own songs from their CD “Bakersfield, Ireland,” their covers of music from Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young, and Van Morrison kept the audience clapping, singing along, and cheering for more.

You can feel good about making a New Year’s resolution that supports local businesses such as Acoustic Solution, Blind Dog Coffee, and 88 Cups Coffee & Tea. Make a new habit of stopping in to see what new flavor these coffee houses plus (meaning they also serve homemade soups, sandwiches, desserts, and choices for non-coffee drinkers) are serving. You might meet a new friend or rekindle an old acquaintance. Your taste buds and soul will thank you for the treat.
Acoustic Solution will be playing at 88 Cups Coffee & Tea on Lucerne Street from 7:15-9:30 p.m. Jan. 28. You can check out other upcoming dates, or better yet, book them for your next event, at acousticsolutionmusic.com. The schedule for upcoming events at the coffee houses can be found at 88cups.com and blinddogcoffee.com.
Have a ramblin’ good week.
