Girls make gifts that will be warmly received
December 23, 2002
Members of Berean Bible Church’s Young Women’s Group gave very warm Christmas gifts to two mission families this year.
The families, doing work in Croatia and Honduras, will be receiving blankets, thanks to the thought and effort of the nine girls.
Following in the footsteps of the church women, who had provided gifts the past three years to the families, the girls “wanted to do something on their own,” said Susie Almeida, wife of Pastor Eddie Almeida.
“With this group, we try to teach them character building skills.”
Under the watchful eye of Cassie Almeida, Karen Hartman and Shirley Sutterfield, the girls D Sharon Schnorbus, 13, Mia Vazquez, 10, Brenda Hartman, 14, Lucy Hartman, 12, Jaclyn Latragna, 12, Natalie Hartman, 11, Joanna Hartman, 10 and Brianna Vazquez, 14 D made brightly-colored, fleece blankets.
Each blanket bore a tag that read “We do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in our prayers.” Eph. 1:16, and signed by all the girls.

“One stitch at a time, we learned about patience and had a lot of fun,” said Sharon. “This was the best. We were able to help others and there was the unity of us coming together.”
Natalie hopes “the missionaries like these,” amd her sister, Joanna, felt the project was important “Because this was a way to help people, the missionaries, and to wish them a Merry Christmas.
Joanna added that it was also something she enjoyed doing.
Each of the girls had varying levels of experience sewing, but found this was something they would like to do again.
If not blankets, though, they said they would do something next year.
Cammie felt the girls had learned not only patience and working together, but the importance of giving.
“Definitely, with the machines not working and trouble the first night, the girls had real good attitudes and helpful hearts in wanting to do this for the missionary groups,” Susie said.
