Flu season has arrived in Antelope Valley
January 31, 2012
As is the usual, this time of the year is the prime time for us to get the flu. I have had several friends who lately have felt terrible from something resembling a flu type. It’s just important to remember to wash your hands frequently, cover your cough or sneeze with your sleeve or arm, stay home if you are sick, and get vaccinated if you haven’t already done so.
If you would like to hear some really bright and well-prepared students speak on a subject of importance, you should plan to be at the Community Center in Walker on Monday, Feb. 6, by 7 p.m. You will be amazed to hear these young people speak. The doors will be locked when the contest begins, so plan to be there a little before 7 p.m.
Fire department dinner dance
Saturday, Feb. 11, from 7 till 10 p.m., the Antelope Valley Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Sweetheart Dinner & Dance as a fundraiser for the Fire Department’s building addition. Live music will be provided by Nighthawk. A tri-tip dinner will be served, at a cost of $20 per person, with a no host bar available. There will also be raffle tickets for door prizes, silent auctions and a fun country hoedown. This will be at the fire station at 1166 Larson Lane in Coleville and should be an evening of a lot of fun.

This is an early reminder to mark your calendar to come to the Beta Sigma Phi sorority’s annual corned beef and cabbage dinner on March 17, at the Community Center in Walker from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be homemade desserts and a no host bar by the Antelope Valley Lions Club, as well as many drawings, with the grand prize of a $500 Visa card. The proceeds of this evening are used for the sorority’s various community efforts, including an annual Coleville High School scholarship.
This and that
With the calm winter season, many fisherman are enjoying the opportunity to do some fishing at Topaz Lake. Mike and his friend, Bob, went the other day and caught several nice fish, so it might be worth your while to give it a try.
