Douglas Tiger heading for Brazil
August 7, 2013
I got a note from Rotarian Bob Conner pointing out that Carson Costa is only one of two Douglas High graduates headed out in the world as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program.
Illiana Brown, daughter of Gardnerville Ranchos residents Ray and Yvonne Brown, is off to Brazil for a year, and may have already left on her journey.
Illiana was a big hitter for the Douglas Tigers softball team.
I've already received Carson's first column, which I'll plug into the paper next week.

At the Genoa dedication on Saturday, I had a talk with resident Ron Terrell about of all things, electrical boxes. Like a giant "Whack-a-Mole" game taking down the power poles caused large electrical boxes to pop up in town.

Ron said he engaged Valley artist Beverly Caputo to paint the one in front of the Genoa Bar to match the rock wall behind it. He said plans are in the works for Beverly to paint the far more obvious box at Mormon Station State Historic Park with a Pony Express theme. They're looking for donations. Contact the town at 782-8696 if you're interested in helping out.

Dozens of antique automobiles were in Carson Valley last week for the Pierce Arrow Society's 56th annual meeting, held in Minden.
Society members stayed at the Carson Valley Inn while touring automobile collections in the area, including Ted Bacon's collection on County Road.
