Douglas Republican Women create winning Christmas tree

Ellen Caywood

The votes are counted and first place in the Christmas tree contest went to the Douglas County Republican Women for their meaningful tree. Second place went to High Sierra Flycasters, third to Douglas County Democratic Women and fourth to Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba, the Basque Club. Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who entered a tree.

We are most grateful to those who have supported us by voting for the trees of your choice to help raise more money than last year. We are so blessed to have such loyal and generous supporters.

Rehearsals are underway for the melodrama and all three shows will soon be sold-out. Performances are Feb. 4-6. Tickets for the Friday and Saturday dinner shows are $25 each or $20 for Douglas County Historical Society members. Cost is $15, or $10 for DCHS members for the Sunday matinee. Tickets available at the Gardnerville museum or charge by credit card at 782-2555.

For those who know her, our melodrama initiator and strongest supporter Sue Smith has been stuck in bed quite ill this Christmas season. She’s doing better, but could use some encouragement in her recovery. If you send her a card in care of the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395 N., Gardnerville, NV 89410, we’ll see to it she gets your cards and good wishes. Your cards will mean more to her than anything else you could send.

The DCHS lecture is 7 p.m. Thursday at the Gardnerville museum, and features Bob Stewart, who speaks about Sam Clemens, his interest in Lake Tahoe and other facts about the trails, people and places in 1861 Nevada. Admission is $3 or free for DCHS members.

Information about the Douglas County Historical Society at http://www.historicnevada.org or the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville at 782-2555. DCHS and its museums in Gardnerville and Genoa don’t receive any regular state or county funding. It’s up to members and friends to help keep our doors open.
