Douglas Disposal offers Spring Cleanup Week
May 18, 2017
Our yard backs up to one of the many irrigation ditches that weave through the valley. For years, a wall of willows near the ditch has kept the grasses and weeds at bay. However, many were lost in the last couple of wet and windy winters we've experienced. As a result, that area of the yard is now covered with prolific vegetation, primarily of the weed variety.
After several years of half-hearted efforts at managing this part of the property, I'm on a mission to conquer the overrun space. My husband and I have spent hours clearing what's been lost in the storms, and several trailer loads of green debris have already been hauled to the dump. Since this season's earliest weed sighting, I've continually scoured the yard to unearth the stubborn plants from their firmly rooted positions. I've filled bag after bag with cheatgrass, dandelion, foxtail, and the dreaded puncture vine (goat head weed).
For those of us battling the will of the weeds or simply clearing things out, Douglas Disposal lends a helping hand May 22-26 via its annual "Spring Cleanup Week."
Active weekly residential customers in Nevada can place up to six 32-gallon cans (50 pounds max) and/or bags (35 pounds max) roadside on their regular pick up day. One-foot by three-foot tied bundles are also acceptable. Cans/bags will be disposed of at no extra charge. How great is that?
Please note that furniture and appliances, TV's, computers, tires, or hazardous materials are not acceptable items for pickup.
