Celebrating 25 years at Trinity Lutheran Childcare Center
May 12, 2011
After 25 years of dirty diapers, runny noses and high-pitched screams, teacher Linda Schultz wouldn’t think about doing anything else.
Trinity Lutheran Childcare Center is celebrating Schultz’s 25th anniversary 2 to 4 p.m. May 21.
“I have been here so long that I am now seeing children of children I had years ago,” Schultz said.
Schultz began teaching at the center Jan. 1, 1986, and has served in many roles over the years. She is currently the transportation and program coordinator.
Born in Hayward, Calif., Schultz moved to Carson Valley in 1970, and graduated in 2000 with an early childhood education certificate from Western Nevada College.
She has two sons, and became a grandma this past year.

Schultz said she has many memories of children and events over the past 25 years.
One memory that sticks out for her was on one of the center’s camping days when Eric, a previous student, and his friends found some old fishing twine and sticks and asked her for marshmallows for bait.
“As 30 kids then went up river dipping their marshmallows calling, ‘Fishy, here fishy fishy,’ Eric grabbed a fish and hugged it for dear life,” Schultz said. “We then cleaned and gutted it, and sent it home with him at the end of the day.”
Center administrator Lisa Filbin said the staff at Trinity wanted the community to come help celebrate Schultz’s contributions to education.
“She’s one of those people that for older kids symbolizes coming to Trinity because of how long she’s been here and the history she has,” Filbin said.
