Cannabis as medicine

Why is it that the medical use of cannabis is so frowned upon in today’s society? What is it that makes certain things socially acceptable? It is hypocritical of today’s society making tobacco and alcohol legal to use even though hundreds of thousands of people die each year from it, and yet cannabis is illegal even though not one person in history has died from smoking cannabis. Actually cannabis has been scientifically proven to have medicinal values. Cannabis is already known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-convulsive properties. Also, cannabis has been proven in university lab studies to reduce the growth of tumor and cancer cells. Cannabis really is an amazing plant, aside from being used for medicine, the actual cannabis plant material known as hemp can be used to make a wide range of items. Hemp can be used to make paper, clothes, rope, and much more. Just imagine how many trees would be saved by commercially growing hemp to make paper. Alcohol is more dangerous of a drug than cannabis; it is a depressant which means that it slows heart rate. Alcohol alters the brain chemistry in a way that can demonstrate aggressive behavior which may harm the individual or others around them. Whereas people medicated on cannabis are more calm, relaxed, and social. Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Just like alcohol, tobacco is harmful to those around the user. While drunks get aggressive or get into motor accidents, people who smoke tobacco create a second-hand smoke that is harmful to all of those around the smoker. It’s sad how thousands of people every year die from second hand smoke, they didn’t make the choice to smoke but yet they shared the same fate as those who do smoke. So why is it that tobacco and alcohol are socially acceptable even though they both kill thousands of people every year? While cannabis, which no one has ever died from, is proven to have medicinal values and can also be used as a cheaper substitute to wood is made illegal? If the American government was reasonable it would either make all three items legal or illegal not make the worse two OK and the least harmless one not.
