Bus service back in Ranchos
October 4, 2011
We love the idea that regular bus service has been restored to the Gardnerville Ranchos after three years.
We know that not many people use the bus, though it’s probably more needed than it has been at any time in the last 30 years.
But it feels like progress against the dark days of the recession that Douglas County’s largest single community is once again connected to public transportation.
Add to that new service that BlueGo started Monday between the Ranchos and Carson City and it almost feels that we’re civilized again.
We realize that bus service in Douglas County has always been underused. But anyone who’s complained about traffic congestion or gas prices should be encouraged by the renewal of bus service.
While there may not be much of a dent made in the amount of traffic thanks to the new bus routes, every little bit will encourage to the total.

We look forward to the day when bus service will extend to the rest of the Valley’s communities, and even beyond to places like Topaz Ranch Estates.
It will be a long time before that happens, but in the meantime Douglas Area Rural Transportation has taken the first step in restoring mass transit to Carson Valley.
