Old trunk to be opened Friday

Staff reports

A trunk owned by Eliza Park Hansen, niece of the famous Dr. Eliza Cook, will be opened at the Genoa Courthouse Museum, Friday, and the family treasures that have been locked inside for decades will be taken out and hung up for display.

Laurie Hickey, who along with Janice Hansen is planning the evening, said champagne will be served and cost is $5. Call Hickey, 782-2893, for reservations.

On Saturday and Sunday, the contents of the trunk will be on display during museum hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Items in the trunk date from the 1730s to the 1950s and feature items ranging from silver serving pieces to camisoles, slips and pantaloons. There are photos, quilts and adults’ and children’s clothing as well as shoes, belts, aprons and a program from the Carson opera.

Admission to the display over the weekend is $3 per person. All proceeds benefit the museum.

The Genoa Courthouse Museum is operated by the Carson Valley Historical Society.
