Obituary: Yvonne Chen
Yvonne Chen, 65, of Markleeville, CA passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the University of Washington Medical Center after a sudden and courageous battle with cancer.
Ms. Chen was employed by the Seattle Public Library in several critical roles, including librarian, Collection Development Coordinator, and Director of the Central (downtown) library. Ms. Chen moved to Redwood City, CA, where she served as the Director of the Redwood City Public Library until retirement in 2003. Ms. Chen was an avid hiker, traveler, cross country skier. She retired to Alpine County, California, where she enjoyed hiking with her constant companion, her dog Starbuck.
She leaves behind her beloved children, daughter Shawn (Mark) of Seattle; her son J (Saba), and grandchildren Jasmine and Jaan of Walpole, MA. She also leaves behind her mother Edna, sister Dorothy (James), and brother Tyrone (Grace); and many other beloved friends and family. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel LeBarron, and father Fu Hua Chen. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, empathetic daughter and sister, a good friend and supporter of many and will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at her home in Alpine County, CA in the spring, date to be determined.
