Obituary: Julane M. (Moxness) Hanson
Julane “Pud” Marilyn Hanson went to be with our Lord at 9:00 pm January 25, 2012. She has lived in Gardnerville, Nevada, since April 1987. She had lived in LaPalma, Calif. 21 years prior to that. The graveside rites will be held at the Eastside Memorial Park, in Gardnerville, at 9:30 am on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, followed by the memorial services at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1480 Douglas Ave., Gardnerville, NV 89410 at 11:00am. Julane was diagnosed with a brain tumor on November 22, 2011. Medication and radiation treatments could not contain the malignant tumor.
Julane Marilyn (Moxness) Hanson was born on October 18, 1931, in Bristol, S. Dakota, to Julius and Myrtle (Dugan) Moxness. She graduated from Bristol High School, as Valedictorian, in 1949. She went on to Northern State Teachers College on a Scholarship, and then worked as the office coordinator for an Architect in Aberdeen, South Dakota for two years.
On August 26, 1952, she married Harold S. Hanson of Langford, S. Dakota in Aberdeen S. Dakota. Harold was a student at the S. Dakota School of Mines and Technology, in Rapid City, S. Dakota, and they resided at the Veterans Housing on campus during his senior year, while she had a job as school staff secretary. After graduation in June, 1953, they moved to Hawthorne, Calif. where Harold took employment in the engineering department of North American Aviation in Inglewood, Calif. They had three children and in 1966 moved to LaPalma Calif. When the children were grown, Julane went back to college, earning an A.A. degree in medical records., and worked in a couple hospitals and retired as Medical Records Director of the Garden Grove, Calif. hospital. Julane served as Chairman of the Board of the California Lutheran Bible School, (the first ever woman chairman) and was active in its auxiliary for many years.
After retirement, Julane and her husband were active in two square dance clubs, the Road Runners RV Club of Carson City, the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Good Sam RV Club of Carson Valley and the Lutheran Church. They enjoyed traveling, journeying to Europe (4 times to Norway) and most of the United States.
Julane has been active in The Daughters of Norway, Queen Maude Lodge of Carson City, serving in various capacities.
Julane is preceded in death by her father, mother and brothers, Warren and Eugene.
She is survived by her husband, Harold; son, Mark Hanson of Buena Park, Calif; daughters, Jill Coleen (Norman) Larsen of Elk Grove, Calif. and Meri Linn (Cecil) Rider of Fairfield, Calif; sister-in-law, Helen Mae Moxness of Watertown, S. Dakota; and sister, Joyce Erlandson of Watertown, S. Dakota. She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, designated for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), or to Daughters of Norway Queen Maude Lodge of Carson City, Nevada.
