Mildred Electa Parsons Griffin passed away on October 29, 2016 in Gardnerville, NV at the age of 92.

Milly was born on January 1, 1924 in Oakland, CA to Otto Alger Parsons and Dorothea Reints Parsons. She grew up in Berkeley, attended University High School, and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1945.

After graduation she worked for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company in San Francisco, before moving to Westwood, CA to begin teaching school. In 1953 she moved to Tahoe Valley, where she taught an additional eleven years, before moving to Gardnerville, where she continued to teach second grade for two decades before retiring in 1990, for a total of 34 years of dedicated service to elementary education.

She married Donald G. Griffin in 1954 at Fallen Leaf Lake. They made their home in Tahoe Valley, CA and had two children before moving to Gardnerville in 1965.

Milly was involved in many social and civic organizations in the Carson Valley and was a particularly dedicated member of the University Women's Club, the Republican Women's Club, and the United Methodists Women's Club.

She was a gifted pianist who loved music, gardening, camping, swimming, and reading. Most recently, she enjoyed attending senior luncheons and her book club.

Milly made friends wherever she went and had a genuine interest in the lives of her students, friends, and family. We will miss her intelligence, her warmth, and her ever-present smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Don; and sister, Miriam L. Burcham.

She is survived by son, David M. Griffin; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Alan Gross; grandson, Jonathan Miller; great-grandson Sheridan Miller; nephews Charles L. Burcham and Arthur F. Burcham; 2 grandnephews, 6 grandnieces; and 2 great-grandnieces.

A memorial service will take place at 2:00 pm, November 19, 2016 at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville, NV.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Milly's memory to a charity of your choice
