The first joint conference in a decade between the organizations representing Nevada’s counties and cities wrapped up Thursday in Douglas County.

The Nevada Association of Counties and the Nevada League of Cities held their first joint conference since 2003 at the MontBleu in Stateline. In addition to the county, the Town of Gardnerville, the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District and the Indian Hills General Improvement District are served as hosts.

“Ten years later, there is still a need and a desire to continue building these partnerships,” said NACO Executive Director Jeff Fontaine. “Both associations are looking forward to the opportunity to come together and reflect on the 10 years past and the future of local governments in Nevada.”

The conference focused on public lands issues, finance, infrastructure, the affordable care act, senior services and social media. Speakers included Will Rogers impersonator and professional historian Doug Watson and humorist Meagan Johnson.

While most of the conference was at Stateline, a golf tournament was Tuesday morning at Carson Valley Golf Course.

The president’s reception is was held at Edgewood Country Club. The two organizations had their banquets at the MontBleu Theatre 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday’s session included a presentation on the state’s sesquicentennial.
