MS Walk volunteers sought for Minden man

Staff reports

The MS Walk to be held in Carson City April 22 will help raise funds for research into multiple sclerosis, and several Valley people are walking for Bob Gallagher of Minden, who has MS.

According to his wife, Jackie, Celeste Russell of Gardnerville is spearheading a team from the Valley to walk in the Carson event for her husband.

The three-mile walk will be held at Mills Park in Carson City. Walkers obtain pledges for donations, which are coordinated by the Great Basin chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Most walkers raise $125 or more. Pledges are turned in the day of the walk. Often, participants will collect the promised cash and turn it in at the same time as pledges.

Awards are given to walkers who earn a selected amount of money, including a trip to the national MS Walk of Champions for $5,000 and certificates and sweatshirts or T-shirts for lower amounts.

More than one-third of Americans live with MS is some fashion, and the walk is a way for friends and family to show support and donate to research, education and local programs that help people with MS, according to Gallagher.

To walk or to donate, call Russell at Sharkey’s in Gardnerville, 781-3133, Gallagher at 782-4309. Russell can be contacted through the World Wide Web at, scroll to Celeste Russell.
