Moose on the Loose at GES

Staff reports

A stuffed moose and a 1st grader at Gardnerville Elementary School celebrated their 7th birthdays last Friday with chocolate chip cookies.

Austin the Moose has been visiting the first grade classrooms of Julie Schultz, Susan Mathews and Linda Bourgeois at Gardnerville Elementary School.

Austin is the youngest of six moose from the “Moose on the Loose” program sponsored by Nevada’s First Lady, Sandy Miller. The program highlights activities in Nevada schools and is a great motivator for students, Schultz said.

Austin has been learning about dinosaurs, making valentines and learning how to put words in alphabetical order.

“He even attempted a few words during Spanish class,” Schultz said.

Austin and Ashley Gong were the center of attention at the birthday party Friday morning.

Ashley and Austin wore paper corsages made by parent helper Connie Wennhold.

“That same afternoon,” Schultz said, “Austin was part of our Valentine’s Day party. He enjoyed the many valentines he received from his friends in class.”
