Generations of students attended Minden Elementary School third-grade teacher Shari Chappell’s retirement party in Minden Park on Wednesday.

More than 100 of Chappell’s friends, colleagues and students gathered for the party.

Chappell retired after 30 years working in the Douglas County School District, if you don’t count the semester she student taught for a former teacher.

A 1981 Douglas High School graduate, Chappell was named one of the University of Nevada, Reno’s top 10 senior women in 1986.

That was the same year she student taught for Ken Dressler’s third-grade class at Gardnerville Elementary.

She was featured in a Dec. 11, 1986, story about her first year teaching at Gardnerville Elementary.

Among her students in that first class were Lindsay Benson, Krissie Thornhill, Kate Gardner and Amber Pirtle.
