Minden school offers sock hop
Minden Elementary School will hold a spring fund-raising Sock Hop and Silent Auction with plenty of fun for the whole family April 18.
Event-goers will be able to enter the best outfit and best twist contests as well as the contest for the best dressed-up family.
To set the mood for the Sock Hop, a popular form of high school dance in the ’50s, students and staff at MES will wear 1950’s attire to school that Friday.
Some of the silent auction items include one-half gallon of ice cream every two weeks for a year donated by Model Dairy, a $100 gift certificate at Winans Furniture, one-half hour balloon ride from Lake Tahoe Balloons, and many gift certificates from area businesses. A trip to Disneyland donated by Reno Air will also be on the auction block.
Music for the dance will be provided by The Sound.
Pizza will be provided by Pizza Barn, soda by Smith’s and dessert from the student council. A photographer will be available to take pictures of families or individuals with a 1950s background, says MES parent volunteer Lori Cofano.
C.C. the Clown will make an appearance to paint faces and do balloon art.
Proceeds from the Sock Hop will be used to build a display case for the main hallway of the school and books for the library, Cofano added. People who would like to contribute but who cannot attend the dance may purchase raffle tickets during the week before the dance at the MES office.
