MES sock hop to raise funds for books
The Minden Elementary School’s Parents Group will hold its fifth annual MES Spring Auction and Sock Hop March 16.
The sock hop is one of two fund-raising events that the parent group holds every year to raise money for books and software and technology for the classes.
“All proceeds we get go to the school. This year, the money will go for books,” said Kathleen Miller, chairperson. “We feel it’s important to have a variety of books.
“Also, software programs and tools in the classroom that are technology-focused will be purchased with the money we earn.”
The auction also raises money for the school and items are donated.
“Most of what we auction off has been donated by merchants,” said Miller.
The event is for MES staff and students and their families.
“There are food sales, rootbeer floats, music for the kids to dance to,” said Miller. “The kids also dress up ’50s style if they want.”
There is also a raffle which brings in quite a bit of money.
“Teachers have a special bag for students to buy raffle tickets from. Some of the prizes are free passes for no homework or going out to lunch with a teacher.”
The Spring Auction and Sock Hop provides a chance for school spirit and new supplies at MES.
“It’s been successful in the past and we’re looking forward to a good event,” said Miller.
The Spring Sock Hop and Auction will be held March 16, 6-8:30 p.m. at MES.
