Man arrested on suspicion of child abuse
A Carson City man was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and neglect during the weekend.
Mark C. Gower, 28, was arrested after deputies responded to the Ironwood Emergent Care for a 17-month-old child with hand prints on her behind. The child’s grandmother had taken her to the medical facility after removing her from Gower’s residence. Reports said the grandmother heard Gower allegedly yelling “that will teach you to take your diaper off” and slapping noises.
Gower was later arrested near the 3500 block of Haystack Drive.
Bail was set at $5,000.
A Texas woman also was arrested on suspicion of child abuse charges Friday.
Angela C. Starkey, 39, of Tyler, Texas, was arrested on two counts of child abuse, DUI-third offense, failure to maintain a lane and open container. Deputies responded to the area of Highway 395 and Gilman Avenue at 12:43 p.m. for a reckless vehicle that almost hit multiple vehicles on the road.
Upon arrival, Starkey refused to submit a breath analysis, however, one of her children, who was in the vehicle at the time showed deputies a partially full bottle of Fireball Whiskey that was in her purse, according to deputies.
Bail was set at $15,780.
A Gardnerville man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after threatening a neighbor Sunday.
Steven N. Andrews, 66, was arrested after deputies responded to the area of Lassen Way for a dog fight.
One neighbor’s dog had gotten loose and attacked and killed another neighbor’s dog.
Andrews allegedly came out of his residence after the fight concluded and pointed a Smith and Wesson M&P .40 handgun at the first neighbor threatening to shoot her and her dog, according to witnesses. When deputies arrested Andrews, he had a blood alcohol level of .123, according to deputies.
His bail was set at $25,000.
