Staff reports

Classic cars and a cruise around town is coming up this weekend in Carson Valley.

The Valley Cruisers’ annual Main Street Event will be Aug. 21, 22 and 23 in Minden and Gardnerville.

On Friday, events will include hangin’ out, a steak or chicken barbecue and a street dance with a live band.

Esmeralda Avenue in Minden will be closed from 5 until 10 p.m., and the barbecue will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with a street dance and live music by the Rush Hour band.

The public is invited to the dinner and dance and to see the classic cars parked on Esmeralda.

Events on Saturday include a pancake breakfast, show and shine, raffles and cruisin’ main street. Activities begin at 7 a.m. with the breakfast, a show and shine and live DJ music at Lampe Park. Cruisin’ Main street begins at 4 p.m., and the public is invited to watch as the classic vehicles drive by.

The Main Street Event wraps up Sunday with a pancake breakfast at 8 to 10 a.m. at Lampe Park. A poker run begins at 8:30 a.m., and the show and shine will again provide many fine classic cars for the public to view. An awards presentation is at noon.

Up to 250 cars are expected to be on display at the park, and raffle tickets are being sold for the famous “barrel of booze” and a set of tires, among other prizes.
