Lube-A-Thon will raise money for Project Santa Claus

by Rosemarie Middendorf

Now is the time to winterize vehicles and in the process support Project Santa Claus.

Superior Lube and Car Wash at 1295 Highway 395, Gardnerville, will hold the fourth annual Lube-A-Thon, Saturday, Nov. 13, from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

For every basic lube and oil change at $26.95, Superior Lube and Car Wash will donate $10 to Project Santa Claus. The idea is to do a little extra to help the community, according to Terry Martinez, operations manager.

Project Santa, in operation since 1988, attempts to provide a new toy and new item of clothing for children of families of Douglas County who qualify.

Residents may also participate in Project Santa Claus by providing winter clothing in good condition – coats, jackets, sweat suits, hats, boots, scarves and gloves. Bins for the collection of these items are available throughout the area.

Bicycles, tricycles, wagons and scooters that are outgrown and in the way may be donated to the Kiwanis Club of Gardnerville/ Minden by dropping them off at the Town of Gardnerville, 1369 Highway 395 (place by the blue trash cans) or the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District, 931 Mitch Dr., any Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For pickup, call Willie Kersey, 265-6494, or Jerry Rasmussen, 265-9406.

Last, but not least, anyone may select an angel from one of the “Angle Trees” in Carson Valley. Choose a paper angel, buy the gift, wrap the gift, attach the paper angel to the front of the package and return the gift to the place where you selected the angel.

Monetary donations are always welcome and all donations are tax deductible. Donations may be mailed to P.O. Box 5351, Gardnerville 89410.
