Zephyr Cove resident on "Let’s Make a Deal"
Perhaps it was Kristel Kimball’s attire that made her stand out in an audience of nearly 200 people.
Dressed in a flamingo costume and wearing a blond wig, the Zephyr Cove resident was pulled out of the audience for a turn on the popular game show by “Let’s Make a Deal” host Wayne Brady.
Kimball, who works as an ad specialist for Harveys and Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, was in the Los Angeles area with her husband and mother-in-law. Since they have family in Southern California, they visit the area on a regular basis, she said. Prior to their visit, she looked on the show’s website and requested tickets. She chose dates online and received tickets in the mail.
“Let’s Make a Deal” is, in part, characterized by the colorful costumes many audience members wear and the deals they make with Brady. It is filmed at the Sunset Bronson Studios in Hollywood.
“I was really excited,” Kimball said. “I was a flamingo, I borrowed a costume from work and had feathers and a blond wig … I was standing out for sure.”
According to Kimball, the show’s producers are always watching and audience members do brief interviews beforehand and keep the audience dancing during commercial breaks to keep the energy up.
“They want to pick people who are really excited to be there,” she said.
Once her turn came around, Kimball was asked to choose between cash or an envelope.
“I chose the envelope because it was gold and sparkly,” she said. “Then I lost. I got Zonked! I embarrassed myself on national television.”
But Kimball said she was told she’d get a consolation prize, which she’s still waiting for.
Despite not walking away as a big winner, Kimball is still happy to have had the experience.
“I totally recommend it, it’s free, it’s fun – we made a day out of it in LA,” she said.
Today Kimball said she’ll be watching the show with coworkers when it airs at 2 p.m. Check your local listings for details.
