Young at Heart seeks recruits

The Young at Heart Senior Citizen Club is looking for seniors (50 and above), who can think out of the box, are self-starters, can use the computer/ email and would like to have fun and want to serve on the board. The club has three openings this year and is seeking community support.

The club runs many activities during the year, to raise funds for the seniors and Douglas County Senior Center.

Board members must have a current Young at Heart membership and be 50 years of age or older.

The club meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Douglas County Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

The Young at Heart Senior Citizen Club funds the following programs during the year:

Raffle baskets for Valentine’s, Easter, Mother’s/Father’s day;

Mother’s/Father’s day celebration, flowers/candy;

Holiday craft fair and raffle;

Two trunk/craft/yard art events;

Home bound senior Christmas bags;

Christmas lunch for Young at Heart members;

Bingo, monthly and Monday, Wednesday and Friday after lunch;

Ice cream social;

Membership drive;

Elections yearly (two year terms);

Fill “wish list” from the senior center;

Young at Heart breakfast and barbecue;

Hot soup program.

Early elections taking place in July. If you’re interested supply a short biography and picture by May 26. The information will be posted in the Senior Newsletter, on our website, and Facebook. This must be given to Sheri or Andrea. Come and have fun, it’s very rewarding to give back to our seniors in Douglas County. For more information, email Andrea at or any other board member.
