Yerington resident Mark Thorpe killed in rollover

A Yerington man was identified as the victim of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 208 in Mason Valley 7 p.m. Monday.

Mark Allen Thorpe, 58, was identified as the driver of a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser who went off the road near mile marker 26, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

According to the investigation, Thorpe left the highway and then overcorrected back across both travel lanes and the north shoulder and into a field where it struck an irrigation pipe and overturned. Thorpe was ejected from his vehicle.

Thorpe was transported by ambulance to South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington where he succumbed to the injuries he sustained from the crash. Troopers’ initial investigation indicates that Thorpe was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. No lanes were blocked as a result of the accident.

The accident is still under investigation. That area of Highway 208 is one lane in each direction with a 55 mph speed limit. There are no street lights in this area of SR 208.
