Woman arrested in shooting death of Topaz Ranch Estates man
A woman sought in connection with the shooting death of Topaz Ranch Estates resident Norman Welch was arrested Thursday night in Los Angeles.
Jeanine Escandon was charged with murder with a deadly weapon of Welch, and held on $1 million cash bail in Los Angeles County pending extradition.
Undersheriff Paul Howell said Douglas County Sheriff’s investigators followed Escandon’s trail to Los Angeles where they found the missing Chrysler sedan, and located her at a family member’s home. Continuing investigation led to her arrest in the homicide and theft of the vehicle.
Escandon has prior convictions in California for burglaries and narcotics. No motive was disclosed and the case is still under investigation.
