Weather hinders search for Tahoe kayaker
The search for a missing kayaker at Lake Tahoe has been suspended due to bad weather, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
Pham Dan Vu Thanh has been missing since he called a friend on Thursday morning to say he was going kayaking and camping near Lester Beach.
Efforts to find Thanh began 6:15 p.m., after he hadn’t been heard from that day, but the search was suspended at midnight.
Search efforts resumed Friday morning with resources from The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard, State Parks and other Lake Tahoe marine agencies.
“Searchers were able to complete a search of the most probable locations prior to suspension,” said Sgt. Todd Hammitt “A limited and continuous search will continue in an effort to locate the missing kayaker.”
Pham Dan Vu Thanh is a Filipino with short hair and a muscular build, 5-feet, 7 inches. He weighs 150 pounds and has multiple tattoos on his shoulder and chest.
There is no description of the clothing he was wearing, but he owns a forest green 10-foot kayak.
A lake wind advisory has been in effect through the weekend, and is expected to continue on Monday.
