Wa She Shu celebrates anniversary
Wa She Shu Casino is celebrating its one-year anniversary Saturday with events at the casino property.
The celebration includes guest speakers, a blessing, honor song, tree dedication, hand game tournament and fry bread cook-off.
Hand games are traditional Native American guessing games that predate recorded history, said casino operations generalist Joni Box. A $5,000 prize will be offered for the games. Registration for the games begins at 11 a.m., with the tournament starting at 2 p.m.
The fry bread cook-off, set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be co-hosted by the Washoe Tribe Elder Center and all proceeds will be donated to their program. Taste test tickets for the entered fry breads will be $10 each. A $250 prize and a trophy will be awarded to the top fry bread, with additional prizes for second and third place. Registration is at 9 a.m.
Arts and crafts vendors will also be on hand at the celebration, and the casino will be giving away a total of $10,000 to players.
