Valley teen fourth generation to achieve Eagle Scout honor
Johnson Lane resident Nathan Van Wagenen was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
About 90 friends and family gathered at a special court of honor held in Minden. Nathan’s father, David, achieved the same rank in 1989. His grandfather, Stephen, who presented the award to Nathan, earned his Eagle Scout in 1946. And Nathan’s late great-grandfather, Rulon, earned the award in 1916.
To reach the rank of Eagle, Nathan earned more than 21 merit badges, and provided many hours of community service. He designed a brochure box using 3D CAD software and led a team of 30 people to build 20 of them for his Eagle Project.
In addition to his achievement in Boy Scouts, Nathan is in the National Junior Honor Society, and has made honor roll every semester for six years.
He is in his eighth season playing soccer, and is a member of the Douglas High School marching band where he plays trumpet.
