Valley Boy Scouts help the community
Boy Scout Troop 33 of Carson Valley/Carson City has been actively helping the community during this holiday season.
Starting with Thanksgiving and working until the week before Christmas, the troop has created more than 800 holiday greeting tags for the Ron Wood Family Resource Center Turkey Baskets, and have worked diligently to tie these tags to the baskets.
“These baskets are delivered to those who are hungry within our community,” leaders said. “Because of the troop’s involvement, they was mentioned on the Channel 2 News during the Food Bank fundraiser.”
Also, Troop 33 has been busy working at the Gardnerville and Topsy Lane Walmart locations assisting the Marines in collecting toys for the Toys for Tots campaign. They have been greeting the customers, collecting the toys, bagging the toys for warehouse delivery, and working within the warehouse to separate the toys accordingly.
As the new year begins, Troop 33 has many activities planned for 2014. Some of the events include hosting a Pioneering Merit Badge Fair, attending Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island, Calif., and celebrating the troop’s 75 years of scouting.
